UrevichDear Participants and Guests,

I am happy to welcome you to South Ural at the Third International WTF Ranking Taekwondo Tournament RUSSIA OPEN!

Taekwondo is a young sport for the Chelyabinsk Region and Russia, but the rate of its development and recent resounding achievements of athletes bring hope for a great future. Anastasia Baryshnikova won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and Olga Ivanova was the first Russian to become a world taekwondo champion in 2013. I am sure that the strong performance of the regional taekwondo federation athletes will be a launching pad to the top of the winner’s podium at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

South Ural has an extensive experience in hosting major sporting events; we have been entrusted the honor to welcome the planet’s best taekwondo athletes and host the world championships in 2015. I have no doubt that RUSSIA OPEN tournament will be held at a high organizational level and will be a memorable one both for participants and spectators. We have done our best.

Success and good luck to everyone! Welcome to South Ural!

Mikhail Yurevich,

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region

ChungwonWTF President’s Congratulatory Speech

On behalf of the global taekwondo family, I would like to congratulate the Russian Taekwondo Union and the Chelyabinsk Taekwondo Federation for organizing the 3rd Russia Open International Taekwondo Tournament 2013.

The 2013 Russia Open bears a special significance in that it features senior, junior and cadet categories at the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, which will host the 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Championships.

It is also meaningful as the Russia Open comes shortly after the IOC’s final decision to include taekwondo in the 25 core sports for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games at its Session on September 8 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I believe that the successful taekwondo competitions at the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2013 World Taekwondo Championships in Puebla, Mexico combined to help produce such a good result.

Under the slogan “Stronger than Ever!” the WTF has actively launched a global campaign to provide financial and technical assistance to taekwondo-developing countries around the world. Since 2008, the WTF has dispatched abroad about 1,000 members of its Taekwondo Peace Corps.

Once again, I wish to express my appreciation to the Russian Taekwondo Union and the Chelyabinsk Taekwondo Federation for organizing the 3rd Russia Open. I wish the 3rd Russia Open a great success.

Thank you.

 Chungwon Choue,

President World Taekwondo Federation

TerehovDear Friends,

The Russian Taekwondo Union welcomes all participants of the Third International WTF G-1 and ETU A-Class Taekwondo Tournament RUSSIA OPEN! The capital of South Ural will be hosting the world taekwondo elite for the second time, and it is a great honor and responsibility. In many senses, Chelyabinsk is the pioneer and one of the leaders of Russian taekwondo. This is where the first international ranking tournament in our sport history, RUSSIA OPEN, took place in 2011, and it was a success. In 2015, Chelyabinsk will welcome the planet’s top athletes again when hosting Russia’s first WTF World Taekwondo Championships.

The third international tournament RUSSIA OPEN is a test event before the world championships, and I am positive that Chelyabinsk will get an “A” for all the tests. The South Ural capital has something to show and someone to take pride in. I would like to wish the participants a fair fight and bright victories, and unforgettable emotions to the fans!

Anatoly Terekhov,
President, Russian Taekwondo Union

KiselevDear Athletes, Referees and Spectators,

It is my pleasure to greet you again at the Third International WTF G-1 and ETU A-Class Taekwondo Tournament RUSSIA OPEN!

Two years ago, when hosting the country’s first RUSSIA OPEN, we were making plans for the future but we did not know that we would be able to proceed that far! Over three thousand people are practicing taekwondo in Chelyabinsk region, with new sports schools and clubs getting involved into sporting life. Among the people who have chosen sports as their lifestyle are both very young athletes and those who have worked hard to win Olympic medals and the “gold” of world and European championships.

We would like this year’s RUSSIA OPEN to become yet another incentive for all its participants, a powerful boost to perfect their sporting and coaching skills before competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

I am sure that Traktor Arena will see a captivating showdown interesting to follow for professionals and fans alike. In addition to sporting battles, we have prepared an extensive entertainment program for all South Ural citizens and tournament guests.

Cheer for the athletes! Choose taekwondo!

Anatoly Kiselev,
Chelyabinsk Regional Taekwondo Federation President
